Chiropractic Care
“In all disease look first to the spine.” -Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine
What is Chiropractic?
- Chiropractic is a science, art and philosophy of health care.
- Chiropractic is a science that focuses on the body’s neuromuscular system.
A chiropractor is concerned with how well your body’s nervous system is functioning. Your brain is your body’s computer and the nervous system is the wiring, which carries all the information to and from the brain. Your spine is the main pathway for your central nervous system. That is why a chiropractor is trained to use a variety of techniques to diagnose the primary condition and treat that condition appropriately. If there is a block anywhere along the pathway of the nervous system, subluxation, chiropractors can find it and remove it to help you maintain a strong nervous system.
Structural imbalances in the body can range from twisting an ankle or arthritis, to compromise of nerve signals which exit and enter the spinal column on their way to the brain. Since nerves travel to all the tissues, organs and cells and control much of the body’s function, compromised nerve signals can cause a wide range of health problems.
Why is your nervous system the key to your feeling well?
Your nervous system includes your brain, spinal cord and the network of peripheral nerves that exit and enter your spine. Your body’s 100 trillion cells, biochemical reactions, organs, glands and tissues are under the control of your nervous system and is responsible for maintaining balance. Chiropractic is intimately involved in keeping your nervous system communicating at its best.
Why is your spine the lifeline to the rest of your body?
The brain is housed within the skull. Similarly the spinal cord is housed within the spine, which itself is made up of 24 movable bony structures known as vertebrae. Openings within these vertebrae exit the peripheral nerves that carry the signals from your brain to all the various parts of your body.
What is a vertebral subluxation and how does it affect your feeling of wellness?
Restricted motion or misalignments of the vertebral structures, known in chiropractic as a vertebral subluxation, will interfere with the nerve signals which are conveying information between the brain and the rest of the body. Any interference of these nerve signals will compromise the normal function of the body parts served by these nerve signals.
What may be causing a vertebral subluxation?
Vertebral subluxations may be caused by any physical, nutritional, emotional or electromagnetic stress. Some examples of these stress factors are:
• A slip or fall.
• A car accident.
• Poor diet.
• Poor posture.
• Medications.
• Intense emotional turmoil.
